Japan provides Rs 1.6 billion to assist Sri Lanka’s counter-terrorism efforts

Japan has provided Yen 01 billion (approximately Rs 1.6 billion) to Sri Lanka to assist in strengthening counter-terrorism measures in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks.

The Finance Ministry, in a statement, said that the grant had been given under the Japanese Government’s ‘non – project’ grant aid scheme.

The grant is for the procurement of the necessary equipment to strengthen the capacity of Sri Lanka Police and Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited on counterterrorism activities, the statement said.

Dr. R.H.S Samaratunga, Secretary to the Finance Ministry, and Akira Sugiyama, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka signed the agreement on behalf of both governments.
