Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has been asked to appear before the presidential commission probing state sector corruption today (11) for allegedly intimidating a witness who gave evidence in a case concerning him.
I.M.K.B. Illangasinghe, a Director at the Education Ministry had complained that he had been subjected to an inquiry after testifying over a case involving the printing of text books with Colour photographs of the minister, a Commission Spokesman said.
During a commission hearing, Mr. Ilangasinghe had pointed out that Colour photographs of the minister had been printed on text books upon his instructions and had caused a massive expenditure to the ministry.
However, the Minister had refuted such claims after being summoned before the police unit of the presidential commission.
Mr. Kariyawasam had been expected to give evidence before the Commission on September 02, but had failed to do so citing personal reasons.
