Having turned down his request for a farewell game, Sri Lanka Cricket will felicitate one of their loyal servants – Nuwan Kulasekara during the third ODI against Bangladesh on Wednesday at RPS.
Although Sri Lankan bowlers like Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath have been top of the ICC Rankings in Test cricket, Kulasekara is the only bowler to hold the top rank in ODI cricket.
A late developer, Kulasekara came into the international scene 16 years ago and had an impact on the game. He played a key role during Sri Lanka’s World T-20 triumph in Bangladesh in 2014.
“Nuwan has been a vital cog in the Sri Lankan line-up and played exceptional cricket during his time with the national team. His contributions made on the field brought a lot of success for the national team. I wish him the best going forward,” Shammi Silva, President of the SLC said in a statement.
“Simplicity and decency were a hallmark of Kulasekara’s cricketing career, which helped him both on and off the field,’’ CEO Ashley de Silva rightly described the man.
Kulasekara, who last represented Sri Lanka in 2017 during an ODI against Zimbabwe at Suriyawewa finished with 199 ODI wickets.
