NTJ suspect arrested at BIA while trying to leave country

A member of the proscribed National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) group who had received training with the Easter Sunday terrorist bombers was arrested yesterday (Jul 3), police said.

Zein Ansar Mohamed, the suspect, was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Terrorist Investigation Division last morning,says the Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara.

The suspect had been apprehended at the BIA when he was about to leave the country, the spokesman noted adding that the TID had been monitoring his movements closely prior to his arrest.

Mr. Gunasekara added that the suspect, a resident of Mawanella is currently being questioned at the Criminal Investigations Department in Colombo.

According to the police, the suspect had attended sermons which had been conducted by the terrorist bombers at their training centre in Nuwara Eliya.
