Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera says he was summoned before the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday attacks today, but stated he will not attend the session.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday MP Jayasekera said he decided against attending the session as a policy decision, as he does not want to be a stakeholder in these proceedings.
The government in its presentations in Parliament yesterday said the PSC has the powers to summon any individual.
Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella joining the debate said Committees operating in Parliament cannot be suspended, and cannot be prevented by the Supreme Court either.
Minister Kiriella said MP Dayasiri Jayasekera is not attending today’s session because he’s guilty of releasing suspects who were arrested over incidents related to the Easter Sunday attacks.
MP Jayasekera in response said he recorded a statement over the matter before the Criminal Investigations Department for three hours and reiterated that he did not release any suspects.
