United National Party Parliamentarian Hesha Withanage says the President does not have an understanding that through the enactment of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, all detrimental clauses of the 18th were annulled.
Speaking to media in Nawalapitiya, MPHesha Withanage said the President has not been notified of the importance of the 19th Constitutional Amendment by his advisors.
MP said the President must continue to fulfill the pledges he made during the 2015 Presidential Election period.
The MP further noted the the 19th Amendment had been enacted as per the request of President Sirisena.
In response to President’s comments, Parliamentarian said if the incumbent President who had been appointed on the pledge to enact the 19th Amendment claims it must be scrapped, the aspirations of 6.2 million voters had been disregarded.
MP Hesha Withanage added the public’s attempts to deliver change on the 8th of January 2015 have been unsuccessful if the President was attempting to retain power by such statements.
