The Opposition claims it has completed the selection process and decided on its Presidential Candidate.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Kanchana Wijesekera said although difference of opinion exists within his group, the Opposition will announce the candidate in due time.
He also urged the government to conduct the Presidential Election in the month of November.
MP Kanchana Wijesekera says there is one candidate the entire country is expecting and that the people have already taken a decision regarding that candidate.
The MP added there is a certain opinion within their faction regarding this candidate and also have decided on it.
He stated that the presidential election is due to commence by the last week of November.
MP Kanchana claims the government may try to postpone the GCE Ordinary Level exams and thereby postponing the Election as well and therefore would like to request the government and the chairman of the Election Commission to commence the Presidential election before the 2nd of December, during the last week of November and give an opportunity to the people.
Parliamentarian Kanchana Wijesekera said the government must work with the security forces and ensure the safety of all Sri Lankans.
He requested the leaders of the country who have a short time period of months left for their tenure of office, to provide the necessary leadership and support to the security forces to make this country a safe place to live in.
