The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says it is futile to hold a referendum to seek a footing for a general election.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today Chairman of the party Professor G.L. Peiris said a public referendum would only result in the waste of public funds.
G.L. Peiris noted it is evident that the government is attempting to hold an election that is in violation of the Constitution.
He stressed regardless of the number of referendums the government cannot avoid holding a Presidential Election.
