The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will hold another round of talks tomorrow (17), during which they will attempt to iron out any outstanding issues.
SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said that while the two groups had agreed on various policies, there were certain issues that needed to be ironed out.
“On a policy basis, both the SLPP and SLFP are in agreement and we are now discussing some other matters.”
He said that the two groups hope to conclude talks in a speedy manner.
“We want to finish these talks so that we can go ahead with other political developments.”
He went on to note that the SLFP have requested that President Maithripala Sirisena contest the next presidential election.
“We have to talk about the presidential candidate with the SLPP as well,” MP Jayasekara said, when The Thina Seithi queried as to whether the SLPP was in agreement with President Sirisena contesting the next presidential election.
“Our aim at the upcoming meeting is to iron out any differences between our two groups and see how we can work together,” he said.
